SonoCred
For emergency department registrars

SonoCred

A point-of-care ultrasound logbook for ED registrars working toward the ACEM core modules. Log the scan at the bedside in under a minute. The patient's MRN stays on your phone.

How it works

Each scan takes three steps.

The bedside part is fast. The thinking part waits until the result is in. The sign-off part is your supervisor's.

I

Log it at the bedside

Open the app on your phone after the scan. Scan the wristband barcode. The MRN goes into a secure vault on the phone and nowhere else. Choose the module, mark each view as adequate or not, and record the findings.

It takes under a minute and works with one hand.

II

Add the result 48 hours later

Two days after the scan the entry opens for follow-up. Sit at any desktop. The MRN on your phone tells you which patient to look up. Record the formal imaging result or the clinical course, mark whether your scan was right, and write a short reflection.

That comparison against a gold standard is what the credentialling standard asks for.

III

Your supervisor signs it off

Your supervisor reviews the entry, confirms the views were adequate and signs it with their name. Module progress updates on its own.

eFAST, Lung and FELS need 25 scans, 13 of them clinically indicated and 5 positive. AAA needs 15, 8 and 3. Procedural needs 25 guided procedures. Two formative assessments and one summative complete each module.

What the app counts
ModuleScansIndicatedPositiveAssessments
eFAST251352 formative, 1 summative
Lung251352 formative, 1 summative
FELS25135 in the critically ill2 formative, 1 summative, plus 25 reviewed cases
AAA1583 with an aneurysm2 formative, 1 summative
Procedural25 procedures6 directly supervised, 3 in-plane and 3 out-of-planen/a2 formative, 1 summative

From ACEM COR742 and the ASUM CCPU syllabi. Every counted scan needs adequate views and a supervisor's review. Your department can add stricter local rules, for example a completed follow-up on every scan.

Progress hub: five orbits, one per module, each with an arc showing scans logged 89 entries
  • eFAST 25/25
  • Lung 18/25
  • FELS 9/25
  • AAA 12/15
  • Procedural 6/25
Your progress hub. One orbit per module. The arc grows as entries are counted and the orbit fills when the module is complete.

For departments

The ultrasound lead's view.

Hospitals credential locally. ACEM sets the standard and your credentialling committee makes the decision. So the app is arranged around the department: your supervisors, your trainees, your committee.

Cohort progress

Every trainee in your department on one screen. Scans, indicated and positive counts against each module's thresholds, and who is close to a sign-off.

Sign-off queue

Entries waiting for review and requests for formative or summative assessment, oldest first. Review on a desktop and sign with your name and the date.

Committee-ready summaries

A per-trainee summary written for the credentialling committee. Module counts, assessor names and dates, and the follow-up rate.

Your department, your thresholds, your sign-off. Ask about a department pilot

Privacy by architecture

The cloud cannot hold a patient identifier.

This is not a policy promise. It is how the database is built.

On your phone only
  • MRN
  • Date of birth
  • Time of the scan

Held in the phone's secure vault, the iOS Keychain or the Android Keystore. Not synced. Not sent to us. Gone when you purge it.

In the cloud, in Sydney
  • Age band and gender at birth
  • Module, views, findings, your interpretation
  • Follow-up result and reflection
  • Supervisor review and assessments
  • Date of the scan and hospital
  • Your name, email and role
Nowhere, ever
  • Patient name
  • IHI
  • Medicare number
  • Ultrasound images

There are no database columns for them.

  • A trigger rejects identifiersBefore any free-text field is written, a database trigger reads it. If it finds something shaped like an MRN or a date of birth, the write is refused. The phone screens the same text before it uploads.
  • Age band, not date of birthThe phone converts the date of birth to an age band at entry, for example 60 to 69. Only the band is uploaded. The date of birth goes to the vault.
  • Desktop has no identifier fieldsThe web version shows no MRN or date of birth inputs at all. Identifiers can only be entered on the phone, into the vault.
  • Hosted in SydneyAccounts and logbook data sit in an Australian region. Nothing is stored overseas.
  • Educational use onlyThe app records scan metadata, findings and attestation for credentialling. It gives no feedback about a patient's diagnosis or care. It is not a medical device.
  • No images in version 1Images stay on the ultrasound machine and in PACS. Your supervisor reviews them there and records the attestation in the app.
